A Letter to Congress from our Founder...

One of the things I love about Home Instead...

is that not only do we talk about helping seniors, we are constantly advocating for them too. I'd like to share with you a letter that the Chairman and Co-Founder of the Home Instead Senior Care network, Paul Hogan, sent to congress last week.

It's a letter about understanding the trajectory our population is on from an aging perspective and how home care services can address care costs and commitments to seniors in our nation.

Home Instead Senior Care of SWFL, would like to extend an open invitation for our Florida senators Bill Nelson and Marco Rubio as well as our local congressmen Francis Rooney, Thomas Rooney and Mario Diaz-Balart to come visit us at one our local offices, accompany us to visit first hand their senior constituency and discuss how we currently allow them to age in place. Creating an ongoing dialogue regarding how home care services can bolster our country's ability to care for our ever increasing senior population is necessary now more than ever.

The letter to Congress on behalf of Paul Hogan:

"Keeping seniors from prematurely - or unnecessarily - moving into a nursing home will significantly affect care costs for our nation. It will also fulfill a commitment to some of our nation’s most vulnerable citizens. By 2020, 56 million Americans will be 65 and older and by 2050, that number will reach 84 million. The oldest population, - Americans over 85 – is on pace to triple by 2040.  In my home state, Nebraska, the senior population – those 65 and older – is projected to grow from 247,000 in 2010, to 404,000 in 2030.  That is a 63% increase!

As the entire nation faces similar demographic shifts, I invite you to visit a Home Instead Senior Care office near you to see first-hand why it is important to transform the current system for caring for an aging population.

I encourage you to take time during the summer recess to connect with your senior constituents and start a conversation or keep an active dialogue going. You can make them aware of your efforts on their behalf and listen to them as they speak to their rights about being able to choose from care options. They will not be shy about sharing their opinions as they advocate for aging in place at home, rather than costly, less preferable institutions.

Seniors never fail to inspire me with their stories of resilience and expressions of gratitude for those who make home care a possibility. When you see what we do, learn who we serve and exchange ideas on aging, I hope you will come to an awareness of the ways you may contribute greatly to and benefit from resources Home Instead Senior Care offers.

We freely share our accumulated thought leadership gathered from providing more than 50 million hours of care annually. As the world’s leading provider of in-home care services for seniors, our strong network includes more than 1,000 independently owned and operated businesses serving seniors in all 50 states across America with partners in 12 other countries.  You can reach your local Home Instead provider by calling (800) 640-3914 or by doing a zip code search at homeinstead.com.

My wife Lori and I founded Home Instead Senior Care to meet seniors’ needs by providing the right care at the right time. We also found this model meets the nation’s needs. So, please take a coffee break at a Home Instead Senior Care office in your home state and learn about the ways home care offers a tremendous value to families and the nation.

Sincerely,

Paul R. Hogan"
